A few hours ago Google announced that negotiations with China regarding censorship had failed although they intended on removing any existing search result filtering for their users located in mainland China.  Over the past few weeks China’s government have publically stated that Google will be held accountable for their actions if they decided to disobey the law and cease filtering their search results.

Ignoring China’s wishes Google have directed all users in China over to Googe.com.hk, a version of their search engine specifically designed for users in mainland China and delivered via their own servers in Hong Kong.

They’ve also stated that the decision was made by “executives in the United States, and that none of our employees in China can, or should, be held responsible for them”. I’m betting that in the next 48 hours at least one of their 700 workforce based in China will held accountable.

Having British values it’s hard for me to not want to side with Google even though they’re evil and slowly taking over the world.  Do they have the right to impose their values on China  and disregard their laws?  Who knows, all that is certain is that the world will be watching at this very interesting time.
